A Human. Being!

~ a caffeine based life form. in search of sleep, sanity and shire. ~

You are a ballad that turned me into a bard.
With the banters, and blandishments,
You brought blithe into me.
I had started belying as a bleak,
You bought bounty in my being.
We bickered, remained berserk,
Badgered even, sometimes.
Yet after all the befuddlement, one truth cadavers.
You bedazzle me, you ample me.
You, yes you are a boon, my beloved.

Buddha means the awakened one. As he fully comprehends the four noble truths, and arises from the allays of ignorance, he becomes a Buddha. Buddha is not a god, he is not an human, he is not some person who is born as one. Buddha is not born, a person becomes Bodhisattva first. And then with his own efforts, through spiritual ablution and development of basic virtues as, discipline, generosity, wisdom, endurance, truthfulness, selflessness, benevolence etc. a mortal attains Buddhahood. Enlightenment is a fully awakened state of vast wisdom through which reality in all its complexity can be fully understood and enjoyed. Any human being who is awakened to the fundamental truth about life can be called a Buddha. Buddhahood is a dynamic process, and achieving it is as arduous as it can be.

Siddhartha Gautama was born in 623 B.C. (according to UNESCO) to King Suddhodhana and Maya Devi, as a prince of Kapilvasthu, and ancient kingdom which lies in the Southern state of present day Nepal. Although there are doubts about birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, especially as an Indian Propaganda, the Pillar of Asoka, and ancient inscriptions very much indicate he was in fact born in Lumbini, Nepal.

Siddhartha Gautama was a compassionate man who rejected the joys of being a prince, both asceticism and attachment, and set foot to the path for attainment of Buddhahood. Siddhartha Gautama attained Buddhahood at the age of 35, after 49 days of meditation (which was a middle way adopted by him after many efforts of attaining Buddhahood through finding guru, abstaining ascetics and abnegation failed), in a place called Bodhgaya under tree shade (Bodhi tree), presently in Uttar-Pradesh, India(?). Siddhartha Gautama, hence become Buddha, Gautama Buddha or Shakyamuni as many refer today.

After becoming Buddha, he first gave his sermon to 5 companions in Banarasi, thus forming first sangha; company of Buddhist monks. For the remaining 45 years of his live, he travelled throughout the Indian Subcontinent, perching and teaching people of all caste and origin, people of all profession, even the cannibals; what it is now called as four noble truth and noble eight fold path. His teachings and disciples formed a religion now called as Buddhism. (oh! And yes Gautama Buddha was an iconoclast, funny enough, the largest number of idols in the word today are his.)

So, where was Buddha born? He wasn't, in-fact it's not "him". There are many Buddha, anyone who attains Buddhahood is  a Buddha.
However, it is common practice that it is Shakyamuni or Siddhartha Gautama whom we regard as Buddha generally. And there is no denying the fact that Siddhartha Gautama was born in ancient Kapilvasthu kingdom (which lies in Present day Nepal).

Here is a google earth snapshot of famous Lumbini region including Maya Devi temple, Sacred ponds and other shrines (Birth place of Lord Buddha).

So, Teej is here now. Ah! Finally. After months of Darr celebrations, partying and dancing in the name of it, the day is finally here.

I am saying finally because yesterday I couldn’t sleep. The thing is, I live near a Ladies hostel, and it is generally a good place to live in. But, yesterday, the whole neighborhood was awake because, the girls were up for partying, ani doing teej dance rey. They ruined my plans to study, my plans to sleep early, my plans to watch movies, and raped my eardrums with all the HINDI songs they danced to.

Teej, myths says, it’s the day, our Lord shiva fulfilled Parbati ko "shiva bar paau" vanera gareko Puja-aaja. Well, sano chada I used to listen to puret baje telling the stories to all the chori-chelis, aama-didis in the neighbourhood. The myths are of the satya yoog. Fast forward to the present yoog, Women fast in the Teej, conduct pujas in the shiva-mandir. They fast for wellbeing of their husbands, or if they aren't married already, they fast asking Lord shiva dai to give them husbands like him (which I suppose isn’t a tough task for Shiva dai, because there is no shortage of people like him today, Ganjedis, jobless, depressed, uncivilized and all.). And fasting for whole day, without a drop of water, add to that all the dances they do in the day, I could write a whole book about how (un)hygienic is teej.

The point of me writing this blogpost wasn’t to rant about teej. This week, I noticed two things.
  1. On the game day against India (Which we won, yay!), I read a tweet from @goal_India which read "the Nepali Fans have already started shouting "Dhoti.. Dhoti".
  2. My eardrums are lucky enough to witness all the teej celebrations going around here, and the most famous songs I figured out are (apart from Komal Oli's number), Lungi dance, songs of Ashiqiue 2, and other Hindi songs.

We are patriots. We are lucky to have Buddha's birthplace and Everest in our country, and lucky to have forefathers, who fought bravely in the past, tyo pani with Khuda and Khukuris. We are the coward predecessors of our brave forefathers. And, shameful yet true, We have done nothing  patriotic for our country, except for blaming India for everything that goes in our country. We can't wait to see a New Hindi movie every Friday. None of our parties or religious festivities complete without dancing to Hindi song. We watch hindi channels more than Nepali ones. Let me not start about how dependent we are to India in the thing we actually/basically needs.

Yet, when Indian team plays in our soil we chant "dhotis… dhotis", or tweet and post status like "Don’t give corner to them, they will start selling chatpate" or "Dhoti lai marde, rangashala ma hamro jhanda gadde" or "As a consolation for dhotis, I will buy two plates of panipuris from them" etc. I wonder how much favor we are doing to our country by being such a terrible host/fans.

And sincerely to all of those who are celebrating teeej, please can't you dance to our Nepali songs, if you care about this country and culture so much?

(no offence to anyone intended.)

Chaos in the sky,
Season of rain and dampness,
Silent clouds of the past, rules the heart.

I met same old lady again,
Threw her hands and asked- two pennies,
Searched my pockets and left- silently.

I was there, I watched,
She lost everything to the fire,
I slept peacefully that day.

Shamelessly I watched,
Hurt legs and denuded back,
She rain asking, things to wear and eat.

Some clothes and few bucks,
Few words of sympathy,
It was easy, buying that shame back.

Four monsoon ever since,
Mud and rain creeps the world,
I run dry, every time I see her.

Chaos in the sky,
Untreated wounds and torn clothes,
She brings silent clouds to the soul.
The old beggar.
